IT IS CALLED H.R. 1388:
What did you hear about all last week on every news channel? Swine Flu. The World Health Organization raising its level of infection status to possible pandemic. Hong Kong Hotel quarantined. School closings in the United States, and Mexico on lock down. Hell my daughter had the sniffles, and her mother thought she had the Swine Flu. Today however as Americans go to local Mexican Restaurants to celebrate the Cuervo holiday of Cinco De Mayo, (also know as the day of the battle of Puebla, where 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French Army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City on the morning of May 5, 1862). Not Mexican Independence, which all Americans think Cinco De Mayo is all about.
Well sorry...went on a rant...History major, hate it when people don't know what they celebrate...And I'm a Gringo!
Anyway, the news is that the Swine flu is not as bad as they had thought, and schools are starting to reopen. Well what the Hell? One week, were looking at a possible pandemic that could be greater than the Influenza outbreak of 1918 that killed 20 million people, and the next thing we here is its a sniffle?
What really happened during that week?
I'll tell you this. The Government loves distraction. They get alot accomplished when people are not paying attention to what they are doing. A killer virus is a good way to pass a few laws, like say H.R. 1388.

Oh nothing much! Just a mandatory National Service Bill.

The Senate approved on Thursday April 30, 78-20 to increase AmeriCorps to 250,000 from its current 75,000 positions. The legislation is expected to cost $6 billion over five years.
The House approved on Monday, May 4, 321-105 margin, which now goes to Obama to be signed into law.
Under section 6104 of the bill, entitled “Duties,” in subsection B6, the legislation states that a commission will be set up to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.”

Section 120 of the bill also discusses the “Youth Engagement Zone Program” and states that “service learning” will be “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

The Senate is also considering a similar piece of legislation known as the “Serve America Act,” which also includes language about “Youth Engagement Zones”.
Fears about Obama’s plans to create involuntary servitude were first talked about in July 2008, when Obama told a rally in Colorado Springs, “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.”

The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing “campuses” that serve as “operational headquarters,” complete with “superintendents” and “uniforms” for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And it calls for creation of “a permanent cadre” in a “National Community Civilian Corps.”
The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn’t count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion.

Worldwide symptoms of social crisis and the prospect of environmental catastrophe show that capitalism can no longer take society forward. Technology and production developed in a completely distorted way because of the domination of the profit motive and the anarchy of market competition.
It is the dictatorship of the so-called ‘free market’ dominated by giant banks and transnational corporations. This is why parliamentary democracy has become a hollow shell, corrupted by big capitalist money and ruthlessly manipulated by the big-business mass media.
