WASHINGTON, May 26 (Reuters)
President Barack Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday, selecting a woman who would be the court's first Hispanic justice and a liberal who is unlikely to change its ideological balance.
Do your research media puppets. After all, doing research leads to a more honest story right? Well, if they did their research, they would have discovered that Sotomayor was and is not the first Justice to be nominated or chosen to be a Justice for the Supreme Court. In today's time its all about picking a Justice who fits the politically correct profiles of the time. Is the Justice, Hispanic, Black, Woman? Why can't any President, Democrat or Republic just pick a Justice who follows by the Constitution and upholds the "Rule of law"?
Is it really that difficult. A friend pointed out to me that you do not have to be a lawyer or judge to sit on the bench as a Justice. As long as your intelligent, and follow by "The Rule of law" then heck, you can qualify. Yet considering that Congress is made up of a bunch of lawyers who couldn't succeed in the real world, your nomination would not go very far.
Going back to the story at hand. The first Hispanic Justice was a Gentleman by the name of Benjamin Nathan Cardozo. (Pictured Below). He was well known and remembered for his significant influence on the development of American common law in the 20th century. He was nominated by President President Herbert Hoover in 1932, and succeed Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., serving on the court until his death in 1938. Cardozo was born in New York City, a Sephardi Jew, whose ancestors were Marranos from Portugal. His tenure was marked by a number of original rulings, in tort and contract law in particular. Cardozo was the second person of Jewish descent, after Louis Brandeis, to be appointed to the Supreme Court.
In 1976, the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law was founded in his honor.

It is not surprising that the media has no grasp of the historical details. They still think Barry Soetoro was born in Hawaii.
