Jim Norene was a D-Day soldier in the 502nd Parachute Infantry, 101st Airborne. Their mission was to secure two Nothern causeways leading inland from Utah Beach near Ste Martin-de-Varreville.
Last night, Mr. Norene visited the Normandy cemetery where his fellow soldiers lay buried. He went back to his hotel and quietly died in his sleep. Reports are that this veteran of the World War II D-Day invasion, was suffering from stage 4 cancer, and it seems that he told his family before leaving for France that he might not make it back home.
It is a fitting tribute to Jim Norene that his last visit to his comrades in arms and fellow patriots has been chronicled here. He made his final farewell to those who he loved most, that gallant group of warriors who paid the supreme sacrifice. Rest in peace, Jim Norene, your mission has been accomplished and now you can rest in the company of your Ultimate Commander. We shall not forget you.
