First Terrorist From Guantanamo Prison
On February 23, 2009, the Obama Administration released its first unlawful enemy combatant
back into society as former Guantanamo Bay detainee Binyam Mohamed landed in Great
Britain on Monday morning. This disastrous move comes just three days before the 16th anniversary of the first bombing of the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993—a terrorist attack that killed six people and wounded 1,000 others. When the news broke, ABC News reported that members of the group Military Families United made thousands of calls to the White House to express their outrage and opposition to the release. According to Military Families United: “Mohamed was captured in Pakistan in April, 2002, and has admitted to training at various Al-Qaeda training camps, where he specialized in firearms and explosives. He is accused of plotting a series of attacks on the United States with Jose Padilla and Khalid Sheik
Mohammed. According to a British news source, Mohamed will only be required to live
at an agreed address and to check in regularly with police.” Read Mohamed’s unclassified “Combatant Status Review Board”
By releasing this man from custody, it appears that President Obama is more interested in
pleasing the ACLU than keeping Americans safe.
